THE TG TAPESTRY

Historical events are depicted in the TG Tapestry opposite which was made by the North Baddesley Townswomens Guild.

It was presented to the new Village Hall in time for the official opening in 1991, it had been worked in just nine months by ten members of the Arts & Crafts section.

The tapestry depicts - Clockwise from the top left -
  1. the Domesday book
  2. the Knights Hospitallers
  3. the Crest of the Chamberlayne family (Lords of the Manor
    since 1811)
  4. the wagon of Purkiss who tradition has it, carted the body
    of King William II (Rufus) from the New Forest to Winchester, resting overnight at Body Farm
  5. the Manor house
  6. poacher Smith's two tombstones at St John's churchyard
  7. the old village hall
  8. the Roman Catholic Church
  9. the Health Centre
  10. the Community Centre
  11. the Junior school
  12. All Saints Church
  13. yew tree in St. John's Churchyard
  14. St. John's Church

The inner part shows the Coats of Arms of the Lords of the Manor - at the centre the badge of the Chairman of the Parish Council.
