THE MILLENNIUM TAPESTRY

This Tapestry was produced to mark the Millennium. The fabric collage was worked on during the year by Jean Trundle, Chris Wilkins, Margaret Davey and Peggy Jones. NB2000 Committee sponsored it.

Posters. They are the winning entries in a competition open to all children in the Parish. The 'Church' was designed by James Williams and second in the same age group was the 'Sunrise' by Hilary Whitworth, both from Mountbatten School. The 'Composite Colour Wash' was done by Taylor Thornton and second to it was the 'Group of Smiling Faces' by Emily Pascal, both are pupils at North Baddesley Infant School. The competition was judged by Daphne Ellman.

Test Valley Millennium Relay. This came through the Parish in early May. The local schools passed the baton amongst them (the picture shows the baton at North Baddesley Infant School) and it was then taken on a walk through Emer Bog, organised by the NB2000 Committee and led by a member of the Hampshire Wildlife Trust. At the edge of the bog the baton passed to the Footprints Youth Group who walked to Romsey. The baton returned to North Baddesley Village Hall the next morning and the Over 50's Keep Fit Group walked into Romsey and handed it on to the Romsey Opportunity Group at the Appletree Centre.

The Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire 'Bulbs for Schools Scheme'. In October of 1999, the pupils of North Baddesley, Junior and Infants planted Daffodil bulbs in the grounds around their schools, with the help of the local Women's Institute. It led to a very colourful display in the Spring of 2000.

Valley Park Benches. Several have been purchased to mark the millennium in the local area.

The Parish Council Millennium Tree Planting Scheme. This was completed early in the year on the land adjoining the cricket pitch in Castle Lane. This scheme won recognition in August when it came first in the best tree planting section of the Southern England in Bloom awards.

Family Fun Day in June. The pictures show some of the entertainment in the afternoon. In the morning a short service was held followed by John's Gospel, as told by a true storyteller. The Opening Ceremony was performed by local celebrity Bob Purkiss. Entertainment continued all afternoon with an hour allocated to a 'Compendium of Crazy Capers'. Bob Tee presented the sports prizes won during the afternoon and from various events held during the previous week. Hospital Broadcasting gave a running commentary all afternoon. A Craft Tent featuring work from local residents were also a feature. One of the hottest, sunniest days of the year.
