NORTH BADDESLEY SCHOOL

The school opened in 1876 and was known as Chilworth and Baddesley National School (Chilworth had by far the larger population then). John Dibble was appointed Head Master and lived in the schoolhouse next door, he received £100 per annum, plus free house and coal. Mr Dibble was assisted by his sister Mary Dibble, who was not a qualified teacher, but is believed to have taught needlework and the like to the girls. The Dibbles served the school for 44 years, retiring in March 1920.

The school initially only had one classroom with 85 children on the register, a second classroom was added in 1894, with further extensions in 1932, 1957 and 1960. The Primary school was reorganised into an Infant and Junior School in 1969, with Mrs Hunter becoming the Infant Head, and Mr Petty as Head of the new Junior School.
