EXTRACTS FROM THE SCHOOL LOG
THE FIRST WORLD WAR ERA 1914-1918
1914, 23rd November – Visitor: Miss Fleming brought a parcel of wool, asking if the girls would like to knit socks for the soldiers, so knitting will fill all the needlework time for those knitting the required socks.
18th December – Gave Miss Fleming eight pairs of socks.
1915, 25th March – There was a school collection for soldiers huts – 10/- (50p)
1917, 5th June – Mr Hicks, the School Inspector, visited the school and addressed the children on War Savings.
15th June – The ‘War Saving Association’ started this week with 57 members.
29th, 30th & 31st October – Holiday, children gathering acorns.
12th November – We sent 67 bushel of acorns to the Naval Cordite factory.
23rd November – Visitor: The Reverend H Heap brought £5/1s/3d (£5.07p) for the acorns.
