Practice Nurses
The surgery has 3 Practice Nurses. They are available for chronic disease management, i.e. asthma, diabetes, stroke monitoring and heart disease. Baby immunisation clinics are run by the Practice Nurses on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Travellers are offered an initial telephone consultation for advice on immunisation and schedules followed by an appointment for the relevant immunisation.
Health checks are available for both men and women.
Healthcare Assistant
This member of the nursing team is involved in blood pressure monitoring, minor health checks, ECGs, hearing tests and applying simple dressings to cuts and abrasions etc.
Phlebotomist
Blood tests are performed by the phlebotomist between the Phlebotomist hours of 8.30am and 12.30pm only on every weekday.
Attached Assistant
The District Nursing and Health Visiting Teams are attached to Staff the surgery but not based here.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS
Please give at least two working days notice for a prescription to be issued. If you require the prescription returned to you by post then please supply a stamped addressed envelope.
Note 1 Repeat prescriptions cannot be requested over the telephone.
Note 2 We are not responsible for delays attributable to the postal system.
The local pharmacy (Alliance Pharmacy on Rownhams Road) provides a collection and dispensing service for repeat prescriptions. Patients who want to avail themselves of this service should inform the pharmacy staff.

PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP
The Patient Participation Group (PPG) is an informal group comprising a doctor or a member of staff and patients of the surgery. The group usually meets each month. They discuss any relevant new proposals for the practice and assist in fund raising for the purchase of equipment. A member of the group is responsible for the Michael Witt room (see below).

THE MICHAEL WITT ROOM
This information room was opened in 2002 in memory of Michael. It is staffed by volunteers, is open each morning and its aim is to assist patients and local residents by providing: a medical library of videos, DVDs and books, copies of information from a medical website on many health conditions, information on immunisation requirements when travelling abroad, supplies of hearing aid batteries and tubing, leaflets on medical conditions and local information, a copying service for a small charge, a collection point for recyclable ink cartridges, a counselling service for those patients urgently in need.

The room depends on voluntary funding. Money is raised by various means, including Quiz Nights (some of the funds raised are also used by the Patient Participation Group) and charity golf days organised by the Witt family. If you would like to help in any way, please visit the room where you will be made very welcome by the volunteer staff.

COMPLAINTS
The practice operates an NHS recognised complaints procedure. If you believe you have a justifiable complaint please see the Practice Manager.

SIGNATURES FOR APPLICATION FORMS ETC.
It is not usually necessary to make an appointment with a doctor simply to have forms completed and/or signed. These can be left with a receptionist and collected at an agreed time. This service incurs a charge dependent on the nature and amount of work involved. Please see a receptionist for further details.

MEDICAL STUDENTS
The surgery plays an active part in the teaching of future doctors. Students taking part in our surgeries will have completed at least two years of training. Patients are always informed when making an appointment if a student will be with the doctor. Please either tell the receptionist if you do not want a student present during your consultation or request an appointment on another day. We consider our role in training to be very important and we are grateful to those patients who feel able to help.
