TALKING NEWSPAPERS
Do you have any friends, relations or neighbours whose eyesight makes it difficult for them to read but who like to keep up with local news? If so, do they know about Talking Newspapers? These are produced specifically for people with sight impediments. The Romsey Talking Newspaper is an hour-long weekly tape recording of the main stories from the current "Romsey Advertiser". It is produced each Friday when the paper comes out and is put together by teams of unpaid volunteers. It is delivered to listeners’ homes, free of charge, by the Post Office. No payments have to made for this service and the only request made is that listeners, or their friends, send back the tapes, post-free, in the envelopes provided with each edition. Anyone who would like to receive the Romsey Talking Newspaper should ring, or ask someone to ring, Christine Pashby-Taylor on 01730 890406. If someone is interested but does not live in the "Romsey Advertiser’s" circulation area, or would prefer tapes from some other local paper, Christine can put them in touch with the Talking Newspaper that they would like. Talking Newspapers are a registered charity and are run by unpaid voluntary workers.
Residents can use the following freefone number to report street lights which are damaged or not working: 0800 506 060. Callers should state the column number and road name.
